The Best Airbnb in Georgia to Step into Your Favorite Stories

Sharing is caring!

I like to think that I travel to experience the world by tasting my way through a destination, experiencing local attractions, and crossing off big ticket items. However, one thing Iโ€™m kind of bad at is paying my proper attention to accommodation. For me, itโ€™s just a base camp to get out there and explore (plus, I donโ€™t love spending a ton of money just for a bed). However, Iโ€™m opening up to the idea that stays around the world are just as much part of the travel experience.

Sure, I want to visit dream destinations like the next gal, but staying in a campervan in Iceland or an eco-lodge in Costa Rica, or even a treehouse in Bali, are all experiences on their own that deserve to be included in the trip planning process and budget.

Needless to say, Iโ€™ve been on the lookout for unique local stays in Georgia. Luckily, I found the best Airbnb in Georgia. In fact, itโ€™s a few Airbnbs in Georgia created by the same incredible hostess, Kristi. She builds and curates rental spaces to transport you to your favorite movie universes, creating unforgettable Airbnb experiences that will rival any attraction on your trip.

She has a number of unique properties with a few in currently in the works. Iโ€™ve visited three of them so Iโ€™ll be sharing all the details about those.

The first is an adventurer suite fit for Indy, the second is a wizardโ€™s castle common room themed stay, and third is the Groundskeeperโ€™s Hut! In this Airbnb guide, Iโ€™ll share all the details of these properties with lots of photos and feel free to jump to the bottom for an exclusive conversation with the hostess herself, Kristi, to learn how these spaces were created and whatโ€™s in store for cinephilic travelers!

Note: If you want to experience these stays without hearing/seeing all the details, read at your own risk. Iโ€™m not leaving anything out!

Where Are the Best Airbnbs in Georgia

These stays are in Chickamauga, Georgia in the northwest corner of the state. The exact location is withheld to protect the host and guestsโ€™ privacy. If you book a stay here, youโ€™ll be given full details, of course!

A short 25 minute drive brings you to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where there are lots of cheap, fun activities! Chickamauga is also 2 hours from Atlanta or just under 3 hours from Athens, Georgiaย or from Helen, Georgia.

Adventurer Hideout

Imagine you just got back from searching for the Lost Ark or Holy Grail, to no avail. You need a place to rest, conduct some literary research, and fuel up before you continue your adventure. This is the ambiance that the Adventure Suite holds.

Immediately upon entering you canโ€™t help but be drawn to all the antiques, trinkets, and treasures the room holds. Youโ€™re surrounded by vintage suitcases, trunks, games, art, and even hats that Indy would approve of. Kristi creates a unique scavenger hunt for each rental space, which makes exploring the space even more fun, and great for families!

Relax on the couch and enjoy the Indiana Jones films while you peruse vintage postcards (that Kristi will actually mail for you!). Admire the books on the large bookshelves and when itโ€™s time for some shut eye, slide the bookcases open to reveal a hidden bed!

Stay Amenities

Inside the space, there is a kitchen space with a sink, microwave, and mini fridge, plus some popcorn to pair with your movie. There is a small table at which you can eat or sign the guest book. The bathroom has a walk in shower and any amenities you may need. There is WiFi and an easy-to-use climate system so youโ€™re as comfortable as possible. One parking space is available. This suite costs $76 per night and up depending on availability.

Personal Experience

I was truly blown away by this space. It honestly shifted my perspective that your accommodation can be just as important to your trip experience as other activities. We only stayed for one night for our trip to Chattanooga where we went hang-gliding and visited Lula Falls, but it was absolutely unforgettable. I really regretted not being able to stay longer and dedicate time to the space alone โ€“ a mistake I didnโ€™t make the second time visiting one of Kristiโ€™s properties.

Wizardโ€™s Dream

If youโ€™ve ever wanted to go to a certain wizard school and stay in the classic four-poster dorm beds, or have a meal at a wizard family home, this space will make you feel right at home. Before you even get inside, youโ€™re greeted with the (grounded) flying car, a vintage Ford Anglia, housing a familiar snowy owl in the back.

Once you step inside, youโ€™re transported to our favorite family of 9โ€™s kitchen, which is just adjacent to the door. Spot magical creatures on the windowsill and unusual cooking ingredients stocked on the shelves! The center of the room feels like the house common rooms (maybe not for the underwater one). There is a large couch and two chairs from which you can sit and enjoy the Wizarding World films including all Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts, and documentaries.

The ceiling and all walls but one are covered in tapestries. The single wall without tapestries instead has portraits reminiscent of the halls of the school and the towers.

At the end of the space are two four-poster beds with beautiful quilts that truly feel like they were plucked right out of the school. Peek under the bed to see the classic monstrous textbook! And, pull out and open the trunks to see more fun memorabilia. So many special details youโ€™d never think about!

The bathroom is stunning by itself! Iโ€™ve never seen so many mirrors! Lit by flickering lamps, fake candles, and twinkling string lights, the bathroom has a huge clawfoot bathtub and towels in your school colors.

Of course, there is a scavenger hunt, which is such a unique touch!

Stay Amenities

As I mentioned, the bathroom has a large bathtub, but there is no shower. The kitchen space has a Keurig (with K-cups), microwave, mini fridge, and popcorn! The small table in the kitchen is fully functional and can be used to enjoy your meals. The beds were extra-long twin beds and were very comfortable. The bed on the right had an outlet with a small shelf to set your phone and other belongings. There was also a tall suitcase that acted as a nightstand for the left side bed. Similar to the Adventurer Suite, there was an easy to use climate system. One parking space was available.

Personal Experience

Let me tell you, when I say I didnโ€™t make that mistake twice (of not dedicating time to the space)โ€ฆI really came prepared this time. In case you canโ€™t tell from the photos, I spent the entire time exploring and enjoying the space. We had no other plans this time other than that (although we did visit two breweries in Chattanooga).

I brought my wand, all my Loungefly bags, T-shirts, and enthusiasm, and got to work creating photoshoots using every corner of the space and its relics. We settled in for the night and watched Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix while enjoying popcorn!

Groundskeeperโ€™s Hut

If youโ€™ve grown an attachment to this pseudo father or just wanted to see what life was like for the โ€˜ole giant, then you have to visit the Groundskeeperโ€™s Hut!

The moment you drive up to the Groundskeeperโ€™s Hut, youโ€™re greeted with a spot-on recreation complete with three pitched roofs, stone walls, and a door fit for a giant! Unlatch the massive (yet not too heavy) door and enter.

The main room is circular with a living space to the left, where you can relax and marathon the Harry Potter or Fantastic Beast films, a dining area to the right, a four to five foot tall fireplace and hearth toward the back wall, and a small kitchen area.

You can immediately picture the half-giant living here!

The bedroom is in the back of the space with a king bed, or maybe even a California kingโ€ฆsomething big enough for the groundskeeper and his dog to sleep on.

Plus, thereโ€™s a TV in the bedroom to continue the marathoning from bed.

Look at this bedroom and massive bed! Canโ€™t you just picture Hagridโ€™s pup, Fang jumping up here?

The bathroom falls under one of the pitched roof areas so the ceilings are very high! The open shower was a nice touch and the sink bowl was a beautiful light colored rock.

I really got a kick out of the bathroom because the medicine cabinet was 7 or 8 feet highโ€ฆwhere he would need it. And yes, we did peek inside to see lots of glass bottles!

Outside, there is a cauldron where you can light a fire to roast fireside snacks or just sit under the stars. Since it was the dead of summer when we visited, we passed on this but it looks like a wonderful experience for the cooler months, especially during fall in Georgia!

There was a fun scavenger hunt written by the groundskeeper himself and Kristi offered butterstotch soda and a birthday cake, if desired.

I highly recommend partaking in the scavenger hunt so you can really sort your way through all the awesome trinkets and antiques.

Stay Amenities

The bathroom has an open shower, but there is no bathtub. The kitchen space has a Keurig (with K-cups), microwave, and popcorn! Youโ€™ll find the mini fridge in the bedroom. Youโ€™re welcome to use the dining space, but fried foods are not allowed as the grease gets everywhere and can ruin the curated items in the space.

The bed was huge as I mentioned, advertised as a king, but it felt bigger! There was a nightstand on one side with a reading light and outlet nearby. Tucked behind some baskets next to the bathroom door, youโ€™ll find a luggage rack.

Parking was easy since there was open land everywhere surrounding. The road in takes you over gravel but it was no problem, even for my small car.

Personal Experience

This stay trulyย truly blew me away. Because it was built from the ground up, every detail was chosen to embody the Groundskeeperโ€™s Hut. You felt small in the space and also like youโ€™d be joined by the Groundskeeper at any moment. With his overcoat and gloves resting on a coat rack, it was so easy to pretend you werenโ€™t in Georgia anymore.

We really enjoyed watching the films in this space with popcorn, of course!

A Word with the Hostess: how Kristi created the best Airbnbs in Georgia

1. Can you share a brief timeline/story of how these Airbnbs came to be?

Some time ago we purchased a farm from a neighbor, and some adjacent properties, one of which was a dilapitated a-frame cottage. I fell in love with it the minute I saw it. We restored it, and I decorated it with a fairy tale theme, my daughter painted the stairs like books (each of our family members got to choose a favorite). When the space was done, it was too magical not to share and we listed it as a themed Airbnb.

After I worked on our farm and cottage, I decided to restore a grand lady in our small town โ€“ a beautiful old house that was falling into ruin. Although most thought it should be torn down, I decided to save it and it is BEAUTIFUL now. I feel like it is a treasure uncovered. When it was done, I had a cool little space open and my daughter suggested using it as another themed Airbnb, this one based on our favorite of stories, those of our favorite wizard. Weโ€™ve now moved it to another space โ€“ and upgraded the contents โ€“ including the Ford Anglia.

2) How did you choose these fandoms?

We chose themes from things we liked, stories and films we all loved. Ones that gave room for escaping reality and stepping into the story, even for a little bit.

3) How long have you been curating these collections? and what does that process look like?

As long as I can remember โ€“ I love hunting for and finding treasures! Iโ€™ve traveled quite a bit for work, and ALWAYS took empty, extra suitcases. Then, I hit the thrift stores and yard sales with a vengeance!

Harry Potter items displayed on a 4x3 set of square boxes with little trinkets and a large quill pen and guest book
Part of the Harry Potter collection

4) Is there any particular item in each room that was hardest to get or has an interesting story?

The footstool in the common room is so long, which made it hard to get home since I found it outside Oxford [England]. Also, the groundskeeperโ€™s umbrellas are hard to find in โ€œrealโ€ condition (meaning ones that look like theyโ€™ve actually been used by a wizard, not just a brand new manufactured one). The copper pots werenโ€™t hard to find, but like the footstool they were from England so it was hard to get them home. I had to take 2 or 3 back at a time.

5) If you could choose any other fandom to create a space for, which would it be?

That would be giving away our secret plans for the next three spaces.

6) Anything else youโ€™d like to share about the space? Future spaces? etc.

We currently have the Groundskeeperโ€™s Hut and a salute to Studio Ghibli well underway.

โ€œI love creating joy and something that suspends reality. You just become a part of it.โ€
