Hey hey! Alanna here! I recently got my PhD in Chemistry, but made the full-time switch to travel blogging in 2023. I grew up in Los Angeles, I’m now based in Tennessee. I traveled with my family growing up all over the world hitting 19 countries by 18 years old. Suddenly I found myself in college trying to figure out adulting (eww). Regardless, I was determined to figure out how to keep traveling.

So that’s what I did. I figured it out. (and psst you totally can too!)

Now, I’m a self-proclaimed hyper-planner with the BEST resources and tips to share so you can figure out how to travel too. I’ve been to 25 countries now, and became a master at squeezing in travel as a student.

First of all, I am a chemist and we like nerdy puns (all we’ve got are periodic table or salt puns…so let me have it). I also love to explore destinations with my scientist hat on. I love to share the geology, biology, astronomy, and more behind destinations…after all the world makes for the best classroom.

But, periodic also has another meaning. I am a periodic traveler, meaning I’m not a full time digital nomad. I have a home base and a very comfy bed that I miss dearly when I’m traveling. Not to mention it hasn’t been within my graduate student budget or schedule to be traveling full time as many travel bloggers do. While I recently graduated, I still can’t see myself traveling full time.

In the mean time, when I can’t travel somewhere exotic, I like to explore my own backyard, which right now is Knoxville, Tennessee. I like visiting cities and the outdoors around the South and getting to know this part of the country piece by piece. I also frequently visit Los Angeles to see my family and try to explore a bit every time I go. Let this be your reminder to actually plan some local trips!
